A family business by the Zaanse Schans
We're Sander and Floris Rietveld — a father-and-son team running BikeRentalZaandam from our home just a few minutes from the Zaanse Schans. Since opening our two Airbnbs called Het Sluisje, we kept hearing the same question from international guests: 'Where can we rent bikes to explore?'. So we started doing it ourselves.
Our story
Living right next to one of the most visited spots in the Netherlands, we saw a lot of tourists struggling to figure out how to explore the area. Walking from the train station to Zaanse Schans is fine. But seeing the windmills, the polders, the Zaan river, the surrounding villages — that's a bike trip, not a walk.
What started as helping our Airbnb guests with bikes became BikeRentalZaandam: a small, focused rental service for everyone visiting the area. Whether you're staying with us at Het Sluisje, in an Amsterdam hotel, or a hostel down the road — you're welcome here.
What makes us different
We're not a big rental chain. That's the point. Three things we care about:
